STOCKTON, Calif. – The Pacific softball team closed out the Mizuno Classic Saturday afternoon, falling to Marist, 4-3, at Bill Simoni Field.
In her 11th relief appearance for the Tigers (8-20),
Bethany Hammer entered the game in the fifth inning and kept the game close as the Red Foxes (11-15) held a 3-0 lead. Hammer pitched the game's final three innings and only allowed one run on two hits while tallying four strikeouts. The red-shirt senior from Placerville, Calif., who recorded at least four strikeouts in a game for the fourth time this season, has tallied 36 strikeouts so far this season.
Reagan Hamilton provided the offense for Pacific late in the game as she recorded home runs in two straight-plate appearances. Trailing 3-0 in the sixth inning, Hamilton sent a solo shot over the left-field fence to get the Tigers on the board.
After the Red Foxes extended the lead in the top half of the sixth inning, Hamilton followed with a two-run home run in the same location in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 4-3. The sophomore from Taft, Calif., who tallied her first career multi-home run game, has accumulated three home runs this season.
Pacific returns to action on Wednesday, March 23, as the Tigers travel to face off against Fresno State in a non-conference contest at 6 p.m.
