STOCKTON, Calif. – Against one of the top teams in the nation, the Tigers got into a shootout with Arizona. The Wildcats ended the scrap on top, winning 13-8.
Thomas Gavello continued his hot streak, driving in two runs with a double.
Chaz Myers and
Brandon Motheral both had two hits. Myers scored two runs, walked twice and stole a base. Seven different Tigers drove in a run on eight hits.
Seven different Tigers took the mound on Monday. Starter
Caden Duke pitched 1.2 innings, allowing one hit and striking out two.
Tyler Stout pitched 2.0 innings in relief, allowing zero hits and striking out one.
The Wildcats scored twice in the top of the first inning, but Duke worked his way out of a bases-loaded jam and limited the damage. The Tigers responded in the bottom of the inning, with two RBI singles and a bases-loaded walk to chase the Wildcats starter and take the lead.
In the second inning, the Tigers added two more runs on a Gavello double to extend the Tiger's lead to 5-2.
The Wildcats offense scored once in the third before taking the lead in the fifth with three runs and extended the lead in the sixth with two home runs to make the score 12-5 Arizona.
The Tigers would score three times in the seventh inning after Jaryd Wood reached on an error with the bases loaded, and walks from Myers and
Jarron Silva brought the score to 12-8. However, the Tigers could not find a big hit to tie the game, and the Wildcats would hold on to win.
The Tigers start WCC play next weekend, hosting Gonzaga March 18-20.
