STOCKTON, Calif. – Game one of the opening conference series was all #20 Gonzaga. The Bulldogs scored in the second, third, fifth and eighth inning to a 13-0 win.
Colby Canales broke up the combined no-hitter in the bottom of the seventh inning with a single to center field.
Jacob Weiss singled in the ninth for the Tiger's only two hits.
Elijah Birdsong started the game and pitched 2.1 innings with two strikeouts while allowing seven runs.
Austin McKinney pitched 3.0 innings with four strikeouts.
Jon Fortner and
Jackson Vaughan were the only Tiger pitchers not to allow a run.
Gonzaga got ahead early thanks to walks from the Tiger pitching staff and timely singles. The Bulldogs only scored three of their 13 runs from an extra-base hit. Singles and Tiger miscues brought in the remaining ten runs.
The Tigers had five baserunners but could not find footing against a strong Gonzaga pitching staff to drive in a run.
The Tigers and Bulldogs are back tomorrow, with the first pitch at 3 p.m.
