Softball Drops Two Games on the Final Day of the Mustang Classic

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – The Pacific softball team dropped the final two games of the Mustang Classic Sunday afternoon, falling to Nevada and Cal Poly.

Nevada 5, Pacific 4

The Tigers (7-17) rallied after falling behind 2-0 and took their first lead of the game in the fifth inning. With a runner in scoring position to open the inning, Rian Dirmeyer tallied an RBI single through the right side of the infield to cut into the deficit. Dirmeyer would finish the game with two hits as she tallied her team-leading 15th RBI of the season.

Delaney Scully followed with an RBI double as the Tigers tied the game at two. The momentum continued to shift as another double from Nina Davis shortly after plated Dirmeyer and Scully to give the Tigers a 4-2 lead.

The Wolfpack (6-17) scored three unanswered runs in the later innings to solidify the victory.

Cal Poly 8, Pacific 0 (five innings)

Pacific muscled two hits against the Mustangs (5-15) in the final game of the Mustang Classic as Budelli and Carly Lucchetti provided the offense for the Tigers.

Lucchetti finished the afternoon with three hits as she continues to lead the team with a .415 batting average. Lucchetti, who leads the team with 27 hits, recorded a single in the third inning. Budelli, who also tallied a hit against the Mustangs, is second on the team with 26 hits as she has increased her batting average to .351.

Pacific returns to action on Thursday, March 17, as the Tigers face off against Iowa State on the first day of the Mizuno Classic at Bill Simoni Field.
