EL PASO, Texas - The Pacific Women's Tennis (6-4) team took on the UTEP Miners (2-8) Saturday in the second match of their Southwest road trip and came out with a commanding 6-1 win.
 
The Tigers got the doubles point with a 7-5 win from freshman Alexis Sam and freshman Cindy Ung in second doubles and a 6-3 win from freshman Megan Carmichael and junior Danielle Zamora in third doubles.
 
"Great fight from our group the last two days," said Head Coach Mike Erwin. "After a string of tough losses, I'm encouraged by the way we have stuck together and responded with complete efforts throughout our lineup. We're looking forward to a couple of days off before we take on Tarleton."
 
The Tigers took five more points in singles in an impressive display. After three sets, freshman MiaAngelina Ruja took the victory in first singles 6-3, 4-6, 6-4. Junior Klara Kosan took on her opponent for three sets and won 7-6, 4-6, 6-0 in second singles. Junior Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle won third singles 6-3, 6-4. Zamora's fourth singles match went three sets, and she won 6-1, 3-6, 6-4. Carmichael fell to her opponent in fifth singles 6-3, 6-4. Sam won two straight sets in sixth singles 6-2, 6-2.
 
"It was great being back in my hometown with my team," said Ruja. "Being able to come out and represent both Pacific and El Paso was an unbelievable experience. Having been gone for years and seeing the people who supported me from the very start gave me the push I needed to help the team win the match. I'm excited for what's to come!"
 
The Tigers take on Tarleton State on Tuesday at 8 a.m. (PDT) in Stephenville, Texas.
