LAS CRUCES, NEW MEXICO – The Pacific women's tennis team (5-4) started its three-match road trip into the Southwest with a 5-2 win over New Mexico State (1-10) on Friday. The trip will continue with a match Saturday at UTEP and Tuesday at Tarleton State.
In this contest, New Mexico State an early lead by winning the doubles point with 6-4 victories at both #2 and #3 doubles at the New Mexico Tennis Center. Pacific won five of the six singles matches to take the match. In two of the wins, the Tigers had to battle back after dropping the first set. Pacific went 3-0 in matches that went to the third set.
At #6 singles,
Alexis Sam notched a 6-4, 6-1 win over
Georgia Townsend to tie the match at one. The Pacific #1 singles player Miaangelina Ruja put the Tigers up one with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Chloe Gavino. The Aggies even the score when Gavi Kalaga picked up a 7-5, 6-1 win over Pacific's
Danielle Zamora. Klara Kosen put Pacific back on the plus side when she finished a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 win over Lisa Zhu at #2 Singles.
Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle clinched the team win with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 win over Natsuki Nishimura at #3 singles. The final match was a 7-6 (3), 3-6, 6-2 win by Pacific's
Megan Carmichael over Bella Nguyen at #5 singles.
