Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. – The Pacific Tigers opened the Spring 2022 season strong with a 4-0 win over UC Riverside on Thursday.
Klara Kosan and
Danielle Zamora won 6-1 against Mahli Silpachal and Hanh Pham for the Highlanders in doubles.
Cindy Ung and
Alexis Sam won 6-3 against Serina Saltzen and Sydney Tran of UC Riverside, winning doubles and securing the first point for Pacific.
In singles, Kosan won 4-1 against a retired Mahli Silpachal, Zamora won 6-1 and 6-1 against Saltzen and Sam won 6-1 and 6-2 against Niki Shahbazi to secure the next three points and a 4-0 win for Pacific.
Maile Brilhante and
Megan Carmichael battled Natalie Shamma and Shahbazi losing 2-6 in doubles two.
MiaAngelina Ruja had a 6-1 and 4-1 unfinished match against Natalie Shamma,
Zoe Clydesdale-Eberle had a 4-6 unfinished game against Sofia Lazzaroni, and Ung had a 6-2 and 5-0 unfinished match against Tran.
"It was a good start to the season for us in tricky conditions at Riverside," said Head Coach
Mike Erwin. "The wind was blowing over 20 mph, causing us to have to make some quick adjustments to our game plan. I feel like our young squad handled it well and took care of business. We're especially happy for
Alexis Sam who clinched the match in her first regular season collegiate match."
The Tigers take on the Tritons of UC San Diego on Friday, Feb. 4 in San Diego at 1 p.m. Per current UC San Diego campus policy, spectators are not permitted at Northview Tennis Courts.
