Tigers Swept by Matadors

NORTHRIDGE, Calif – A solid first inning was not enough for the Tigers as the Matadors finished off the sweep 14-6.

Brandon Motheral led the Tigers with three hits and three RBI. Ben Nemivant drove in two runs off two hits for the Tigers. Zach Patterson started the game on the mound for the Tigers, throwing 3.2 innings with two strikeouts and two walks. Jackson Vaughan was the only Tiger pitcher not to allow a run in 1.0 inning of work.

The Tigers rode two-run home runs from Nemivant and Motheral to jump out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Tigers held the Matadors offense scoreless for the first two innings as Patterson looked strong on the mound.

A grand slam tied the game for the Matadors in the bottom of the third inning. Another home run and a single gave the Matadors a 7-4 lead in the bottom of the fourth. CSUN added two more runs in the fifth to take a 9-4 lead.

The Tigers scored two more runs, once in the top of the sixth and once in the seventh as Motheral drove in another run with an RBI single. The Matadors continued to pile on, scoring five more runs to bring the score to 14-6.

Next weekend, the Tigers are headed to Oklahoma to take on Oral Roberts in a three-game weekend series. The first game will be on Friday, Mar 4 at 1 PM.
