Tigers Conclude Road Trip With Loss at San Diego

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -- The Pacific men's basketball team, completing its four-game road trip, dropped a 60-54 West Coast Conference decision to San Diego Saturday evening at the Jenny Craig Pavilion.

The Tigers (7-18, 2-8) got off to a slow start, turning the ball over twice in the first couple of possessions and falling behind 9-5 in the early going. The Tigers, however, roared back as Alphonso Anderson scored on back-to-back possessions, tying the game at nine at the 15:14 mark of the first half. The Toreros (14-12, 7-6) quickly responded with 11 straight points and opened a 20-9 lead at the 10:41 mark. The Tigers closed the gap and outscored the Toreros 18-12 to end the half, cutting the deficit to five, 32-27, at the halftime break.

Trailing for most of the first half, Jeremiah Bailey paced the Tigers, scoring a team-high 11 points while also connecting on all six free-throw attempts. Bailey, who finished the game with 14 points, tallied a season-high 12 rebounds and recorded his second double-double of the season.

The Tigers exploded out of the gates to begin the final 20 minutes of play, scoring the first eight points and regained the lead, 35-32, at the 14:48 mark of the second half. The Tigers failed to build on that lead, as both teams went scoreless for the next three minutes. Back-to-back baskets from Vladimir Pinchuk at the 11:26 and 10:45 marks of the second half gave the Toreros the lead for good and they held on late to secure the six-point victory.

"We caused the scoring drought," Head Coach Leonard Perry stated regarding the Torero's lack of scoring to start the second half. "We contested shots, we kept them off the three-point line, and we had everything to do with them not scoring." "You have to make plays, and we weren't able to execute," Perry added about not building on the lead despite the team's solid defensive effort.

Pacific returns to action Saturday, February 19 as the Tigers return home to take on Loyola Marymount at the Alex G. Spanos Center at 7 p.m.
