Men's Golf Takes 12th Place at Saint Mary's Invitational

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The Pacific men's golf team earned a 12th-place finish at the Saint Mary's Invitational Wednesday afternoon at Poppy Hills Golf Course. The Tigers completed the final round with an eight-over-par 292 and finished the tournament with a 37-over-par 889 (296-301-292).
 
"I was proud of how the team finished," Head Coach John Cook stated. "We played well during the last couple of holes."
 
San Diego, the lone team to shoot under par throughout the tournament, earned the overall team title with a seven-under-par 845 (275-287-283). Colorado State finished in second place with a nine-over-par 861 (284-288-283), while Saint Mary's climbed the leaderboard on the final day, earning the final podium spot.
 
Maverick Pavletich improved in the tournament's later stages, finishing the final round with a one-under-par 70. Climbing up 10 spots on the player leaderboard throughout the afternoon, Pavletich finished the tournament in a tie for 12th place with a score of two-over-par 215 (73-72-70). The Bakersfield, Calif. senior tallied two birdies in the final round and led the team with 10 birdies and one eagle throughout the tournament.
 
"Maverick played well all week," Cook said. "He had a few bogies but stayed patient and kept playing solid golf."
 
Multiple team members saw improvement during the final round as Timothy Jung, Leonardo Rigamonti, and Ian Fritz moved up the player leaderboard. Jung moved up four spots into a tie for 38th place with a nine-over-par 222 (74-75-73), while Rigamonti moved up seven spots after posting a 54-hole total of 229 (79-76-74), finishing in a tie for 66th.
 
Fritz recorded his best round of the tournament on the final day of competition, finishing in a tie for 77th place with a 20-over-par 233 (77-81-75).
 
Pacific wrapped up the first half of the season and will continue play on Thursday, Feb. 9, as the Tigers compete in the Amer Ari Invitational, hosted by the University of Hawaii.
