PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – The Pacific men's golf team battled through harsh conditions and completed the second round of the Saint Mary's Invitational Tuesday afternoon at Poppy Hills Golf Course. The Tigers shot a 17-over-par 301 during the round and currently sit in 13th place out of 16 teams with a 29-over-par 597 (296-301).
"It was breezy today, and the winds rose to about 20 miles per hour throughout the day," Head Coach John Cook said about the conditions. "The conditions were challenging today."
San Diego leads the field with a six-under-par 562 (275-287), while Colorado State rose three spots into second place with a four-over-par 572 (284-288). Santa Clara and Loyola Marymount are tied for third place after two rounds of play with a six-over-par 574.
Maverick Pavletich climbed the player leaderboard, moving up 15 spots into a tie for 22nd place with a three-over-par 145 (73-72). In the second round, Pavletich shot a one-over-par 72 and recorded a team-high five birdies, with three coming on the back nine. Through the first two days of the tournament, the Bakersfield, Calif. senior has tallied eight birdies, ranking him in a tie for third out of 92 golfers in that category.
"Despite the conditions we were under, Maverick played fabulous," Cook stated regarding Pavletich's play. "He only had one bad hole but played very well all day long."
Pacific tees off the final round of the Saint Mary's Invitational at 9:25 a.m. tomorrow, Wednesday, Nov. 2, as the Tigers wrap up the first half of the season.
