Johnson Scores as Tigers Draw with Cougars

STOCKTON, Calif. – Freshman Haley Johnson scored her first collegiate goal as the Tigers (5-1-8, 0-1-2) battled to a 1-1 draw with BYU (5-2-5, 1-0-2).

Johnson scored the Tiger's lone goal with an assist from Lauren Frohan. Frohan put a shot on goal as well. Jaida Nyby led the team with three shots and two on goal. In goal, Brenna Crump had one of her best games, setting a season-high in saves with 13 and tying her career-high in saves.

The Cougars came out strong in the first half, firing 21 shots and putting 11 on goal to take a 1-0 lead. The Tigers put three shots on goal and focused on the counter-attack from an explosive Cougar offense.

Coming out of the half, the Tigers made adjustments and limited the Cougars to just four shots on goal. Johnson tied the game for Pacific in the 75th minute, receiving the pass from Frohan, taking a dribble and firing from 15 yards outside the box, laying it perfectly in over the goalkeeper's reach. Both teams were battling for the go-ahead goal, with six combined shots in the match's final five minutes.

The Tigers are back in action next Saturday, Oct. 15, traveling up to Spokane for a match-up with Gonzaga.
