Women's Tennis Continues to Impress at Cal Fall Invite

BERKELEY, Calif. – Pacific women's tennis continues to impress in the fall slate of tournaments. The Tigers won the back draw of top-flight singles and doubles at the Cal Fall Invitational.

"Solid weekend for our squad at Cal," said Head Coach Mike Erwin. "Everyone got wins and gained valuable experience. Our focus this fall is to put ourselves in the best possible position for our spring season, and this was a great step in that direction. Now we will turn our attention to regionals at Stanford starting on October 14th. Our group will be ready to battle."

In the top flight, Klara Kosan and Tomi Main competed for the Tigers. Kosan fell in her first main draw match against Yana Gurevich (6-2, 7-5), while Main was defeated by Alexandra Yepifanova (6-3, 6-4). Kosan and Main moved to the consolation draw and proceeded to dominate, each winning three straight matches and advancing to face each other in the finals. Kosan defeated Main (6-3, 3-6, 10-5) in the all-Pacific final.

In the gold draw, Alexis Sam fell in the first round (6-1, 6-0) while MiaAngelina Ruja was defeated (77-65, 6-4). Moving to the consolation bracket, Ruja would win her first match (6-0, 6-3) before falling in the quarterfinals, while Sam battled hard but fell (7-5, 67-79, 6-4) in the first round of the consolation bracket.

In the white draw, Megan Carmichael won her first match (6-0, 6-4) before falling in the round of 16. Olivia Wiese and Zara Fung dropped their first-round matchups and moved into consolation bracket play. Fung won her first-round match (6-4, 6-2) before falling in the quarterfinals.

The Tigers continued to find success in the main draw consolation bracket in doubles, with the duo of Main and Sam winning the finals over Irena Muradtyan and Raquel Villan Pereira 8-7. Wiese and Carmichael, along with Kosan and Ruja, also competed in doubles.
