CORVALLIS, Ore. – Fighting harsh conditions throughout the final round, the Pacific men's golf team finished the Oregon State Invitational with a 32-over-par 884 (296-287-301) and earned 11th place Tuesday afternoon at the Trysting Tree Golf Club. Kansas State earned the first-place finish in the tournament, posting a three-under 849, while Washington State and Tarleton State rounded out the podium.
Shooting a 17-over-par 301 in the final round, the Tigers and the rest of the field struggled while competing against high wind speeds and challenging conditions. Despite the conditions, the Tigers finished the round with 10 birdies, with
Leonardo Rigamonti leading the team with three.
Rigamonti crept up the leaderboard during the final round, moving up six positions to finish the tournament in a tie for 33rd place with a team-low seven-over-par 220 (75-71-74). During the tournament, the senior from Eupilio, Italy, finished with a team-high seven birdies, with four coming during the second round.
Maverick Pavletich recovered after falling behind in the early stages of the tournament and shot a team-best one-over-par 72 to finish the tournament in a tie for 37th place with an eight-over-par 221 (75-74-72). Pavletich was steady throughout the final round, recording three birdies.
Ian Fritz,
Petr Janik, and
Timothy Jung rounded out the scoring for the Tigers, as Fritz finished in a tie for 44th place with a 10-over-par 223 (74-71-78), while Janik shared 51st place, tallying a 12-over-par 225 (72-71-82). Jung finished in a tie for 64th, shooting a 14-over-par 227 (75-75-77) during the three rounds of the tournament.
"There are a lot of positives," Head Coach
John Cook stated after the final round. "We played well at times during the week, and we'll take those positives into our home tournament next week."
Pacific returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 20, as the Tigers compete in Visit Stockton Invitational, hosted at the Stockton Golf & Country Club.
