The University of the Pacific volleyball team went back and forth with Stephen F. Austin as the two teams were tied on 23 occasions and changed leads eight times as the Lumberjacks defeated the Tigers in four, 25-21, 15-25, 26-24, 25-20 in the final match of the SMU DoubleTree Invitational on Saturday morning in Dallas. Jenna Heller recorded her first collegiate double double with 23 assists and 10 digs, two of her teammates nearly had a double double performance in the loss.

Alexa Edwards had a match-high 20 kills and a .222 hitting percentage to go along with five blocks

• The Lumberjacks edged the Tigers in hitting by a .203 to .198 margin and 58 to 47 in kills
• Ielan Bradley led the attack with 11 kills
• Taya Mitchell also had eight kills to go along with three block solos
• Maddy Bourque added 27 assists to go along with six digs and four kills
Set 1
The set went back and forth with no lead being safe as the match was tied on seven occasions. Back to back kills by the Lumberjacks' Taya Mitchell and Ielan Bradley put SFA ahead 13-11 and for the remainder of the set. Pacific managed to hit .229 in the opening set, including four kills by Edwards and three by Sherman.
Set 2
The second set saw the Tigers start the set with a 10-3 lead en route to a 25-15 win. Pacific hit at a blistering .326 hitting percentage and a 75% efforts on sideouts to control the set. Edwards had nine kills to lead Pacific to go along with six assists each from Leo and Heller. Â
Set 3
After an early 5-2 lead, Pacific came back to regain the lead on the strength of three-straight service aces by
Jadyn Tubbs. The Tigers held the lead until the seventh tie of the set as SFA rallied to knot up the match at 17. The two teams managed to go back and forth with the lead for the rest of the set. Pacific mounted a comeback, facing a 24-21 deficit until scoring three-straight points. Kills by
Ramonni Cook and Edwards to go along with a service ace by Heller tied the set at 24 to prompt a SFA timeout. After the break in the action, a Lumberjacks kill and a hitting error by the Tigers to put SFA over the top.
Set 4
The fourth set followed the same back and forth as much of the match, featuring eight tie scores and two lead changes. Pacific was unable to stretch its lead beyond two points throughout the set. The hot hitting tandem of Edwards and Sherman continued as each of them racked up four kills. Plus, setters Leo and Heller providing seven and six assists, respectively in the set. Â
Up Next
The Tigers will host the University of the Pacific Tournament which will bring UC San Diego, Tarleton State, who is picked to finish second in the Western Athletic Conference and Cal – from the Pac 12 to Stockton. Action in the tournament will get underway when Pacific faces Tarleton at 10 a.m. on Friday.
