THINGS TO KNOW:
- Despite dropping their two contests earlier this week to No. 7 Michigan, the Tigers still remain undefeated in GCC play heading into the weekend as they will play their final home conference contest of the 2021 season against Fresno State on Saturday.
- Over the last five years, Pacific arguably been the most dominant program in the conference, racking up a 26-2 overall record since the beginning of 2017 in GCC play, which included a 19-game win streak that stretched from Apr. 7, 2017 to Mar, 7, 2020. Excluding the shortened 2020 season, the Tigers have also won three consecutive GCC championships.
- Currently, redshirt senior Truly Dorland is tied for second in the conference in goals with 31 while junior Lucy Davis paces the GCC with 25 total assists. Impressively, the duo also both sit in the top ten in total points as Daivs is fifth (36) while Dorland is seventh (34).
- Attacking from all angles, juniors Toula Falvey (25, T-5th) and Ana Martinez do Amaral (21, T-8th) also rank in the top ten in goals.
- Defensively, Dorland also is third in the GCC with 20 total steals while freshman Ema Nathan currently places third in save percentage (.468) and fifth in total saves (51).
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS:
- Coming into the weekend, Fresno State is ranked No. 12 in the Women's Water Polo Varsity Top 25 as the Bulldogs have held a top-15 rankings for nine consecutive weeks to date.
- Last time out, Fresno State took down No. 19 LMU, 13-10, in their home finale on Friday, Mar. 2. Overall, the Bulldogs hold a 4-1 record in conference play, tied with No. 14 San Diego State for second in the GCC behind Pacific as they have won four of their last five contests.
- Offensively, Fresno State averages 12.9 goals per game as eight players have tallied 10+ goals so far in 2021.
SCOUTING THE SUNBIRDS:
- Heading into their doubleheader with the Tigers on Sunday, Fresno Pacific is still in search of their first win of the season, having faced three top-25 opponents in their first five contests to begin the year. Notably, the Sunbirds were defeated by Fresno State, 22-5, on Feb. 20.
- Wrapping up their season, Fresno Pacific will finish their 2021 campaign with back-to-back doubleheaders, first in Stockton against Pacific on Sunday followed by two matches at UC Davis on Saturday, Apr. 17.
- Since 2008, the Tigers have won all of their 15 matchups against the Sunbirds, including a dominant 20-6 victory over Fresno Pacific at the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto on Jan. 19, 2019.
