Wolverines Defeat Tigers in Finale

Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – Hungry to get revenge against following a close contest on Monday evening, the No. 13 Pacific women's water polo team (7-4, 5-0) was unable to split the series with No. 7 Michigan on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Wolverines, 9-3, at Chris Kjeldsen Pool at the Pacific Aquatics Center.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Getting on the board first in both contests against Michigan, redshirt senior Viktoria Tamas got the scoring started with her first goal of the contest at the 5:03 mark in the opening period. Less than one minute later at 4:39, junior Toula Falvey pushed the early Tiger lead to two with her lone goal of the match.
  • Although the Wolverines would respond with a goal from Maddie O'Reilly with 2:59 left in the quarter, Pacific remained on top through the first frame, 2-1.
  • In the second, Michigan turned the tables to tally four goals in the quarter, including three in the first four minutes of the period. At halftime, the Wolverines held a 5-2 advantage over the Tigers.
  • Coming out of the locker room, Michigan extended their lead to four with another goal at the 5:20 mark in the third. However, Pacific stayed in striking distance on Tamas' second goal of the afternoon at 4:52, cutting the Tiger deficit to 6-3.
  • Unfortunately, the Wolverines would lock down on defense for the remainder of the game, denying the UOP attack and adding insurance to their lead with two more goals in the third. Through three quarters, Michigan led Pacific, 8-3.
  • Extending their win streak to ten games with one final goal in the fourth period, the Wolverines hung on to secure the victory by a final score of 9-3.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • For Tamas, Tuesday marked her fourth two-goal performance of the season as she has now found the back of the net in five straight matches. For Falvey, her goal moved her to 25 total on the year, good for second on the Tigers.
  • As a team, Pacific led Michigan in total shots 29-22 while also tying the Wolverines with 10 exclusions each.
