Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – Playing in their first non-conference match since Mar. 14, the No. 13 Pacific women's water polo team (7-3, 5-0) dropped a thriller to No. 7 Michigan (16-4, 4-0), 5-4, on Monday night at Chris Kjeldsen Pool at the
Pacific Aquatics Center.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- With both teams locking down on defense in the opening minutes of the contest, Pacific broke through first to open the scoring on a goal from junior Ana Martinez do Amaral at 2:24 in the first period to take the early 1-0 lead. Through one quarter, this score would hold as the Tigers held the early one-point advantage following the first period.
- Aiming to gain some rhythm offensively, redshirt senior Viktoria Tamas put Pacific up by two with her lone goal of the match at the 5:11 mark in the second.
- However, the Wolverines responded shortly thereafter with two goals of their own to close out the half and even the score at two at the halftime break.
- Jumping back on top out of the locker room, the Tigers would score twice to open the third on goals from redshirt senior Emma Myall and junior Lucy Davis at 6:05 and 1:30 respectively. Following another goal from Michigan with less than two minutes in the quarter, Pacific remained on top through three periods of play, 4-3.
- Just twenty seconds into the fourth (7:40), Ava Morrant found the back of the cage for the Wolverines to knot the contest at four.
- Unfortunately, the Tiger attack would be denied down the stretch as Pacific did not score in the final period, falling victim to a late goal from Maddie O'Reilly will :37 left that sealed the victory late for Michigan, 5-4.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Following her goal in the first on Monday, do Amaral extended her streak of at least one goal to 15 straight games, dating back to a two-goal performance against against No. 15 UC Davis on Feb. 23, 2020. Overall, the São Paulo native is third on the team with 17 total goals on the year.
- For Davis, Monday marked the sixth straight contest she has scored at least once in while Tamas extended her scoring streak for four matches.
- In the cage, freshman Emanuella Nathan recorded a career-high 10 saves against the Wolverines for a career-best .667 save percentage.
