Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – Returning home after a single road contest at California Baptist last weekend, the No. 13 Pacific women's water polo team (7-2, 5-0) dominated from wire-to-wire on Friday afternoon, cruising to victory over No. 21 Azusa Pacific (3-4, 2-4), 19-5, to record their sixth straight win and remain perfect in conference play.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Beginning the scoring less than twenty seconds into regulation, senior Brooke Contreras netted her first goal of the afternoon at 7:44 in the first to give Pacific the early 1-0 lead.
- Locking down defensively, the Tigers found the back of the cage twice more in the opening period, which included goals from redshirt senior Viktoria Tamas and junior Brianna Utas. At the end of one, UOP held a 3-0 advantage over APU.
- Turning it on in the second, Pacific would outscore the Cougars 6-2 in the quarter on the strength of goals from five different Tigers: Tamas, Utas and juniors Lucy Davis, Toula Falvey (two) and Ana Martinez do Amaral.
- Riding their hot start into the halftime break, UOP maintained their lead over Azusa Pacific heading into the locker room, 9-2.
- Limiting opportunities for the Cougars, Pacific continued to apply pressure to their opponents in the third, tallying four more goals in the third. In the period, do Amaral scored completed the hat trick while Contreras notched her second of the match. Additionally, senior Emma Myall joined the party with a goal of her own as well as the Tigers were in command of the APU heading into the final frame, 13-3.
- Putting together their second six goal period of the contest, UOP cruised to victory in the fourth with three goals from redshirt senior Truly Dorland, two more from Falvey and one final goal from Tamas. Improving to 5-0 in GCC play, Pacific secured their sixth straight win and sixth home win of the season by a final score of 19-5.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Tying their season high with nineteen total goals, six different Tigers scored at least two goals in the win: Falvey (4), Dorland (3), Tamas (3), do Amaral (3), Contreras (2) and Utas (2).
- For Dorland, she has now recorded at least three goals in six straight matches, making Friday the eighth time overall she has achieved this feat in 2021.
- Displaying a total team effort, Davis added three assists against the Cougars while Tamas notched season highs in goals (3), assists (5) and total points (8). In the cage, freshman Emanuella Nathan picked up her fourth win of the season with six total saves.
- Overall, Pacific was dominant throughout as they led Azusa Pacific in every team category at the finish: shots (38-18), goals (19-5), assists (16-2), points (35-7), exclusions (12-6), steals (19-11) and sprints (3-1).
