Tigers Fall in Back-And-Forth Battle vs. UC Davis

Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – Playing in their second match of a six game homestand, the No. 18 Pacific women's water polo team (1-2) was unable to avenge their season-opening loss on Sunday afternoon, falling to No. 11 UC Davis (4-2), 14-10 at Chris Kjeldsen Pool.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Despite two goals from the Aggies to begin the scoring, junior Toula Falvey got the Tigers on the board with her first goal of the contest at 5:41 in the opening period, cutting Pacific's deficit to 2-1.
  • Keeping pace with UC Davis, redshirt senior Viktoria Tamas found the back of the net at the 2:56 mark in the first. At the end of one, Pacific trailed by just one, 3-2.
  • Continuing to battle, the Tigers would score three goals in the second as Falvey and juniors Lucy Davis and Ana Martinez do Amaral each notched a point of their own. Heading into intermission, UOP remained on the heels of the Aggies, trailing by just two, 7-5.
  • Although UC Davis came out of the break to score first, do Amaral answered right back to begin the third quarter, netting her second of the day at 6:49 to keep Pacific within two, 8-6. Attacking the zone, Tamas also notched her second of the game at 4:33 as the Tigers remained within striking distance heading into the final period, 10-7.
  • Aiming for some late magic, senior Natalie Hosmer found the back of the cage for the second time this year at 6:07 in the fourth while redshirt senior Emma Myall and senior Brooke Contreras each scored their first goals of the season down the stretch for UOP.
  • Unable to lock down on defense when needed, the Aggies matched each Tiger goal with points of their own, holding on to secure their second victory over Pacific this season by a final score of 14-10.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • After two goal performances from do Amaral, Falvey and Tamas, the Tigers now have a three-way tie atop the leaderboard for goals scored through three games, with do Amaral, Falvey and Tamas all even with seven apiece.
  • Looking to convert on each opportunity, Davis continues her hot start to the season as the Canadian logged four more assists on Sunday, pushing her team-lead to 10 total. Overall, she also currently paces Pacific in overall points with 12.
