Box Score BAKERSFIELD, Calif. – Beginning their weekend series with a statement, the Pacific baseball team opened up their four-game set in Bakersfield by putting together a strong team performance in route to a 12-4 victory over California State Bakersfield at Hardt Field on Friday afternoon.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Pacific's bats came ready for action, scoring two quick runs in the first on a solo home run for junior Jeremy Lea followed by an RBI-single from senior Alex LeForestier.
- The Tigers tacked on more runs in the fourth when senior Hunter Schilperoort reached on an error that scored junior Zach Patterson.
- Just one inning later, UOP added another run when sophomore Thomas Gavello drove in Lea for the third Pacific run.
- Senior Bryce Kirk extended the lead in the sixth inning with an RBI-doble scoring junior James Arakawa making it 4-0 UOP.
- Pacific really flexed their muscle in the seventh. Arakawa drove in Lea on a sacrifice fly. Freshman Chase Graves got his collegiate career off to a strong start with an inside the park grand slam to extend the lead to 10-0.
- CSU Bakersfield got on the board in the bottom half on a three-run home run from senior Cody Holtz to cut the deficit to 10-3.
- UOP added one final run in the eighth on an RBI-single from Arakawa as he continues his stellar start to 2021.
- The Roadrunners tacked on a run in the bottom of the ninth when redshirt freshman Kyle Barileau scored on a passed ball for the final score of 12-4.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Graves couldn't have started out his college career much better. The freshman outfielder hit a pinch-hit inside-the-park grand slam in his first collegiate at-bat to push the Tiger lead to double digits, 10-0.
- Senior right-handed starter Hayden Pearce was tremendous on the mound throwing 6.1 innings allowing two earned runs, giving up five hits, walking one batter and striking out seven.
- Lea had a breakout performance at the plate hitting his second home run of the season finishing 2-for-3 at the plate with a walk. Overall, it marked the second consecutive game that Lea has homered in the first inning.
- Arakawa continues to post impressive nights at the plate, pushing his batting average to .500 with three more hits on Friday night.
