Box Score RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Remaining hot to begin conference play, the No. 13 Pacific women's water polo team (6-2, 4-0) took down No. 18 California Baptist (3-9, 1-3), 12-6, on Saturday afternoon to stay undefeated in GCC action this season.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Beginning the scoring less than two minutes into the contest, junior Brianna Utas netted her first goal of the afternoon at 6:07 in the first to give Pacific the early 1-0 lead. After the Lancers responded with a goal of their own at 2:07, the two teams would be even at one following the first frame.
- Despite a CBU goal to begin the second, the Tigers answered with three straight goals to retake their advantage as junior Toula Falvey and redshirt seniors Viktoria Tamas and Truly Dorland each found the back of the cage to close out the quarter. At the half, Pacific remained on top of California Baptist, 4-2.
- Hitting their stride out of the break, Pacific would go on to outscore the Lancers 8-4 in the second half, with the Tigers scoring four goals in each of the final two periods. In the third, Dorland and Utas each added another goal while junior Ana Martinez do Amaral and senior Brooke Contreras also helped extend the UOP lead to four. Through three quarters of play, Pacific controlled CBU, 8-4.
- Experiencing similar success in the final period, Dorland and Utas each scored again in the beginning of the fourth to complete the hat trick while junior Lucy Davis also joined the party with a goal of her own. Additionally, Utas tallied her fourth and final goal, which would be a match-high, at 4:04.
- Doubling up the Lancers in their home pool down the stretch, Pacific would secure the victory by a final score of 12-6 to remain perfect in conference play and push their win streak to five consecutive contests.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Making an early case for GCC Player of the Year, Dorland's three goals on Saturday notched her fifth straight match with at least three goals, marking the seventh overall time she has achieved this performance in 2021.
- For Utas, it marked the first multi-goal game of the year for the Canada native and her first since a three-goal performance at No. 14 UC Davis on Feb. 16, 2020.
- Overall, Pacific led the Lancers in total shots (32-17), goals (12-6), points (13-11), steals (14-10) and sprints (3-1).
