Second Half Surge Lifts Pacific Past Concordia-Irvine

Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – Closing out their six-game home stand in style, the No. 13 Pacific women's water polo team (5-2, 3-0) turned it on in the second half to pull away late from Concordia-Irvine (0-1, 0-1) on Friday afternoon at Chris Kjeldsen Pool at the Pacific Aquatics Center.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Although the Eagles would score first, Pacific quickly responded to open the match on back-to-back goals from reigning GCC Player of the Week Truly Dorland at 4:27 and 2:09. Following another goal from junior Toula Falvey to close out the quarter, the Tigers held a 3-1 advantage at the end of the first period.
  • Trading points in the second, both Dorland and Falvey each found the back of the cage again in the second, as UOP took a 5-3 lead over Concordia into the locker room at the halftime break.
  • Finding their rhythm out of the break, Dorland would notch her fourth of the afternoon at 5:56 in the third, extending the score to 6-4 in favor of the Tigers.
  • Making her mark, junior Ana Martinez do Amaral erupted for three goals in the third period, which helped Pacific maintain their lead heading into the final quarter of play, 11-7.
  • Dominating the defense, Dorland and Falvey tallied three more goals combined to open the fourth as UOP doubled up the Eagles, 14-7, with 5:05 remaining in regulation.
  • Closing out with intensity down the stretch, Pacific would go on to outscore Concordia-Irvine 7-1 in the final period, which included additional goals from do Amaral, Dorland, Falvey and redshirt senior Viktoria Tamas. Securing the double-digit victory, Pacific defeated the Eagles by a final score of 18-8.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Seeming almost unstoppable, Dorland recorded a career-high seven total goals for Pacific as the senior now leads the Tigers with 25 goals on the year. Overall, these 25 goals are good for second in the GCC and seventh in Division I.
  • Attacking no matter the scenario, Falvey finished with her second four goal contest of the year and fourth with at least three goals. For do Amaral, it marked the second time she has recorded at least three goals in 2021 and her first four goal match of the season.
  • As a team, Pacific won all four sprints to begin each quarter in addition to recording 41 total shots on the afternoon.
