THINGS TO KNOW:
- Playing one of the toughest schedules in Division I, the Tigers will face an opponent ranked or receiving votes in the CWPA Women's Water Polo Top 25 for the 18th time in 19 matches, dating back to their matchup against No. 5 UCLA on Jan. 25, 2020.
- Leading the attack, junior Lucy Davis has tallied 12 points in just three contests so far, scoring two goals with a team-high 10 assists.
- In their return to the pool after redshirting last season, junior Toula Falvey and redshirt senior Truly Dorland are both tied for the team lead with seven goals each, which also places them tied for third with seven total points.
- Through three games, freshmen Isabelle Knittle and Emanuella Nathan have almost evenly split time in the cage, with Knittle recording 12 saves on 20 attempts (.375) while Nathan has stopped 10 shots on 15 attempts (.400). Additionally, Nathan has added six steals and one assist while Knittle has notched two steals of her own.
SCOUTING THE AZTECS:
- Pacific and San Diego State have squared off 36 times since the series began in 1996, with SDSU coming out victorious in 33 of those games.
- The first 32 contests, which stretched from 1996 to 2007, all went to the Aztecs. Pacific then won three straight before the Aztecs squeezed past the Tigers with an 11-9 win on Mar. 7 of last year.
- San Diego State has also opened the season with a notably tough schedule, playing their first eleven games against top-ten ranked CWPA competition (No. 4 UC Irvine, No. 5 Michigan, No. 6 Arizona State, No. 9 UC Santa Barbara and No. 10 UC San Diego). Of the first eleven contests, six were one-goal affairs, including three of which required overtime to decide a winner.
SCOUTING THE KANGAROOS:
- Sunday's doubleheader in Stockton will mark the first games of the season for Austin College, who currently is ranked No. 1 in the CWPA Women's Water Polo Association Division III Top 5 Preseason Poll.
- Additionally, it will mark the first time the two programs have squared off historically.
- Pacific's two matches against the Kangaroos will be games four and five of a six-game homestand for the Tigers. UOP will close out their stretch at home with one final contest against Concordia Irvine next Friday, Mar. 19 at 12:00 pm PST.
