Tigers Take Down Aztecs for Second Straight GCC Win

Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – Continuing their six game homestand, the No. 17 Pacific women's water polo team (2-2, 2-0) took down No. 14 San Diego State (2-11, 1-1) in thrilling fashion on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Aztecs 11-10 for their second straight Golden Coast Conference victory.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Despite a goal from San Diego State to open the scoring at 6:07 in the first quarter, the Tigers answered quickly with two goals of their own in the following minutes, as redshirt seniors Emma Myall and Viktoria Tamas notched their first goals of the contest to give Pacific the early lead, 2-1. At the end of one quarter, the score would hold, with UOP on top by one heading into the second.
  • Matching each other step-for-step, the Tigers and Aztecs each tallied three goals in the second, with Falvey scoring twice more while redshirt senior Truly Dorland added one herself at the 3:50 mark.
  • Heading into the locker room, Pacific maintained their advantage over the Aztecs, leading 5-4 at intermission.
  • Coming out of the break, Dorland would record her second goal of the afternoon at 6:53 in the third, pushing the Tiger lead to two, 6-4.
  • Although SDSU responded by tying the game at six two minutes later, the Tigers would add two more goals to their total as Dorland and junior Ana Martinez do Amaral each found the back of the net to close out the third quarter. Through three complete, Pacific remained on top of San Diego State, 8-6.
  • In the fourth, Falvey notched her third and final goal of the contest down the stretch as junior Brianna Utas also scored her lone goal of the afternoon in the final period to keep the Tigers on top.
  • Aiming for one final comeback, the Aztecs would close in to within one goal in the last minute of regulation, but Pacific would find the necessary stops on defense in the final moments to secure the upset victory over San Diego State by a final score of 11-10.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Through four games, Falvey has recorded at least one goal in each contest as the right hander is currently tied with Dorland for the team lead with 10 total goals.
  • Continuing her dominant start, junior Lucy Davis tallied four more assists against the Aztecs to record a team-high four points, pushing her point total to 16
  • Gaining the early advantage, Tamas won three of the four opening sprints for the Tigers on Saturday afternoon. Additionally, Pacific held the advantage in power play goals, scoring on three of six opportunities.
