STOCKTON, Calif. – The University of the Pacific women's team has signed three players to their 2021 recruiting class.
Mia Angelina Ruja from El Paso, Tex., Alexis Sam from Stockton, Calif. and Cindy Ung from Eastvale, Calif. have signed their commitments to Pacific.
Pacific head coach
Mike Erwin is thrilled for the additions to his team and looks forward to coaching the new student athletes.
"We are very excited for this recruiting class," head coach
Mike Erwin said. "These young ladies have worked hard in the classroom and on the tennis court to get to this point. In all of my conversations with them and their families it became apparent that each one shares our values and would be a great fit for our program. We are looking for this group to come in and have an immediate impact."
Ruja played high school tennis at James Bowie High School in Austin, Tex. where she was on Line 1 for her varsity tennis team. She's the fourth of five children who all played soccer and tennis growing up, with Mia being the first collegiate athlete.
Stockton native Alexis Sam will be continuing her athletic career in her home town as a Pacific Tiger. Sam attended both Bear Creek High School and Stockton Early College Academy prior to college where she exceled on the tennis court for both schools. Sam dominated on the court and in the classroom going undefeated during her freshman and sophomore years, while making her school's honor roll every year of high school.
Ung went to high school at Hybrid School of Innovation in Norco, Calif., but competed in tennis separately due to her school being academic only. Ung was a Sectionals doubles champion in 2017 on both women's and mixed gender competition. She also was a Sectionals mixed doubles finalist in 2019.
