THINGS TO KNOW:
  • This past week, Pacific cruised past Santa Clara on Thursday, Feb. 4, 86-62, at the Leavey Center to break their previous three-game skid. Just two days later, the Tigers would make the trip to San Francisco as they targeted a season sweep over USF, but unfortunately fell to the Dons, 75-67, on Saturday, Feb. 6.
  • Redshirt senior Valerie Higgins continues to dominate all-around as she is making her case for player of the year. Currently, the 6'1" guard is tops in the WCC in free throw attempts (88), free throws made (74), total steals (47) and steals per game (3.36). Nationally, these marks also place Higgins tenth in NCAA Division I in total steals as well as eighth in steals per game. Impressively, her 9.2 rebounds per game also are good for second in the conference while average of 16.5 points per game also ranks third.
  • Overall, Pacific holds a 15-10 advantage over Portland in the all-time series, including a season sweep of the Pilots in 2019-20 before they would go on to become WCC Tournament Champions. However, Portland was victorious the last time out between the two programs, with Haylee Andrews notching 24 points in their win in Stockton on Jan. 30.

SCOUTING THE PILOTS:
  • Recently, Andrews became the 29th player in program history to eclipse the 1,000-point mark when Portland faced off San Diego last Monday, Feb 1. Individually, she also ranks 29th in the country and first in the WCC with an average of 5.2 assists per game.
  • The Pilots have compiled 20 or more assists five times this year and currently rank second in the conference as well as 22nd in the nation by averaging 17.1 per contest.
  • On the defensive side of the ball, Portland also ranks second in the WCC in steals per game (10.9), which places them 24th nationally as a team.
