THINGS TO KNOW:
- Hungry to break their three-game skid, the Tigers are looking for their first win since a 61-45 victory over Pepperdine on Jan. 23.
- Overall, the Tigers are shooting 39.8 percent from the field and 34.2 percent from behind-the-arc while also averaging 68.4 points per game as a team.
- Leading the way, redshirt senior Valerie Higgins paces the offense with 16.0 ppg and 8.6 rpg while fellow classmate Brooklyn McDavid averages 11.5 ppg and 5.7 rpg. Setting the tempo, senior Lianna Tillman also averages 9.3 ppg while dishing out a team-high 4.0 apg.
- For Higgins, the Granada Hills native continues to make her case for Player of the Year as she currently sits in the top five in the conference in: free throw attempts (79- 1st), free throws made (66- 1st), total steals (45- 1st), steals per game (3.75- 1st), points per game (16.0- 3rd) and rebounds per game (8.6- 3rd).
- Improving with each opportunity, Pacific currently leads the WCC in free throw percentage (75.9) while also ranking third in the three-point percentage (34.2).
SCOUTING THE BRONCOS:
- Last week, Santa Clara had their Thursday contest vs. Loyola Marymount postponed due to COVID-10 concerns, but ultimately was able to get on the court over the weekend as they took down Pepperdine on Saturday and Sunday.
- Overall, the Broncos hold the advantage in the series as they have compiled a 31-25 all-time record against Pacific, dating back to the 1974-75 season. The Tigers will be hungry for revenge as Santa Clara squeezed past the Tigers in Stockton earlier this year, 77-74 on Jan. 9.
- As a team, Santa Clara averages 63.7 points per game while shooting 41.2-percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from behind-the-arc.
- Individually, Lindsey Van Allen's 13.6 ppg tops the team as the junior also leads the Broncos with 1.5 steals per game and 25 total threes made. Additionally, Ashlyn Herlihy averages 11.8 ppg while also pulling down a team-high 7.1 rpg.
SCOUTING THE DONS:
- Heading into Thursday, USF is on a four-game winning streak following victories over Santa Clara, Pepperdine (x2) and Loyola Marymount. Most recently, the Dons took down the Lions, 84-66, in Los Angeles last Saturday, Jan. 30. In their win over the Lions, redshirt freshman Ionna Krimili poured in a game-high 29 points and broke a school single-game record with nine made 3-point field goals.
- For the second time this season, Krimili took home the UCU WCC Player and Freshman of the Week honors. The guard was a force behind a perfect 3-0 week for USF, tallying 76 total points to average 25.3 points per game. In the three games, Krimili shot 60.5 percent from the field, going 26-for-43 from the field overall while also connecting on 63.6 percent of her attempts (21-for-33) from three-point range.
- If the Dons were to take down Saint Mary's on Thursday, USF would improve to .500 on the season in conference play (6-6) while also extending their win streak to five games, which would mark their longest such streak in WCC competition since Feb. 2008.
- USF currently holds a 24-20 advantage heading into the 45th all-time meeting between the two programs on Saturday. Pacific has won four of the last five over the Dons and will look to sweep the Dons in the regular season for the second team in three years after defeating San Francisco, 83-63, just a few weeks back on Jan. 7.
