STOCKTON, Calif. – West Coast Conference action in 2021 opened up for the University of the Pacific Men's Soccer team on Sunday, as the Tigers (0-4-0, 0-1-0 WCC) hosted San Diego (1-1-0, 1-0-0 WCC) at Knoles Field. Pacific opened the scoring on a penalty kick goal by
Emory Rapaport late in the first half, but a pair of goals in the second half by the Toreros was enough to give USD a 2-1 victory.
GOAL SUMMARY
- In the 44th minute, Pacific was awarded a penalty kick attempt. Emory Rapaport converted the opportunity to the lower right side of the frame to give the Tigers a 1-0 lead. The goal by Rapaport was the second scored in his career.
- The Toreros evened the match at 1-1 in the 57th minute on a header goal by Alex Churness. The play was set up by a free kick from the right side by Ross Johnstone.
- The combination of Churness and Johnstone struck again 67 minutes into the match, as Churness found the lower right side of the net following a long pass from Johnstone for a 2-1 lead and would become the game-winner.
NOTABLE STATS
- Yazid Omri, Mathias Saether, Myles Hall and Samuel Saiz Herraiz each had a shot in the match in addition to the shot taken for a goal by Rapaport.
- Through Sunday, Saether and Saiz Herraiz lead Pacific in shots with seven each on the season. Saiz Herraiz has the most shots on net for the team with three.
- In net, Eric Cotton made three saves on Sunday for the Tigers.
- Johnstone had the most shots on net in the match with three.
