Box Score STOCKTON, Calif.- The Pacific men's basketball team (9-8, 5-7) secured a winning record on Saturday night at the Alex G. Spanos Center and defeated a long-time rival in getting it done, taking down San Francisco (10-13, 4-8), 76-69.
Pacific held the Dons to just 15.4 percent (4-for-26) from three-point range and outscored USF 43-36 in the second half in the final game of an unconventional regular season as the Tigers now await their final seeding and opponents for the upcoming West Coast Conference tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Pacific opened the contest on a 6-0 run and saw the lead get as high as seven points on a jumper from sophomore Daniss Jenkins with 10:10 to go in the half that gave the Tigers a 19-12 lead. However, USF would close the gap and get to within two on a three-pointer by Josh Kunen with 5:09 remaining to cut the Tigers lead to just two, 23-21.
- After getting the lead back to five, Pacific saw USF close the gap and then take its first lead with 2:22 remaining as Kunen hit a jumper to give the Dons a 29-28 advantage. The teams would exchange blows in the final two minutes with Jamaree Bouyea hitting a layup at the buzzer to tie the game at 33-33 heading into intermission.
- Similar to the first half, Pacific opened the second half on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a layup from senior Broc Finstuen at the 17:56 mark to give Pacific a 40-33 lead. Once again, the Dons would close the gap as Julian Rishwain came away with a steal and a dunk with 13:05 to go to get USF to within one at 44-43. Rishwain would strike again at the 11:34 mark with a layup that vaulted the Dons in front 47-46.
- On Pacific's ensuing possession, senior Jeremiah Bailey would draw a foul and convert two free throws to give the Tigers a 48-47 advantage.
- San Francisco would take its largest lead of the game with 10:44 remaining as Rishwain completed a three-point play that gave the Dons a 50-48 edge.
- Shortly thereafter, the Tigers were quick to respond as Bailey canned a three-pointer on the next possession that gave Pacific the lead back at 51-50, a lead the Tigers would not relinquish. The Bailey three began a stretch where the Tigers outscored the Dons 28-19 in the final 10 minutes.
- Down the stretch, Finstuen made a layup with 5:45 remaining to give the Tigers what was to that point their largest lead at 62-53. Pacific pushed their advantage into double figures on sophomore Pierre Crockrell II's floater with 4:02 remaining to make it 66-55.
- USF would get to within seven on a Bouyea jumper with 1:59 remaining, but the Tigers would maintain their margin, pushing the lead back to 11 with 1:31 to go on a Finstuen layup. The lead would swell to as many as thirteen when Crockrell made a layup with 1:06 to play that gave Pacific a 72-59 advantage. Running out the clock, Pacific would go on to secure their second straight victory, 76-69, and close out conference play with their third win in their final four games.
- After the contest, Pacific's four seniors were honored: Bailey, Jordan Bell, Finstuen and James Hampshire. Video content of the ceremony will be uploaded to the Pacific Athletics YouTube channel and shared via social media in the coming days.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Dominating one last time at home, Bailey was tabbed the Hardworking Player of the Game after finishing with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 blocks. Most importantly, the Fairbanks, Alaska native sunk a career-high nine free throws in the win.
- Crockrell would score a team-high 17 points while dishing out eight assists, making it the third time in the last four games where Crockrell has finished as Pacific's leading scorer.
- In addition to Crockrell and Bailey, Finstuen (16), Bell (12) and Jenkins (11) also scored in double figures on the night for Pacific. Bell and Finstuen each pulled down eight boards while junior Jahbril Price-Noel also tallied seven rebounds in the contest.
- Of their 76 points, 46 came in the paint for the Tigers who shot 61.5 percent (16-for-26) in the second half and 49.2 percent (29-for-59) overall in the contest.
- Heating up at the right time, Saturday's victory also marked the Tigers' first win over the Dons at the Spanos Center since Feb. 25, 2016.
