Tigers Dominate Gaels on Senior Day

Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – Pushing their win streak to five straight, the Pacific women's basketball team (11-10, 9-9) took down Saint Mary's with ease on Saturday afternoon, 73-54, in their final game of the 2020-21 regular season.

For seniors Valerie Higgins, Brooklyn McDavid and Lianna Tillman, it also marked their final home game as Tigers, as the three seniors were honored in a pregame celebration before the contest against the Gaels.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Hitting the gas out of the gates, the Tigers jumped out to an early 6-0 lead on back-to-back-to-back baskets from the three seniors less than two minutes into play.
  • Keeping the pressure, Pacific pushed their lead to double digits in the following minutes and extended their lead to 13 on consecutive threes from junior Kaylin Randhawa and freshman Liz Smith to close the quarter. At the end of one, UOP had gained control already, leading Saint Mary's 25-12 heading into the second.
  • Continuing to dominate offensively, the Tigers never let the Gaels come within single digits, as UOP saw their advantage balloon to 20 on a layup from Higgins with 3:11 remaining in the period. Following two more layups from Randhawa to end the half, Pacific held a commanding 42-18 lead over Saint Mary's at intermission.
  • Although the Gaels would put up a fight in the second half, Pacific remained in control throughout the rest of the contest, including scoring the first four points out of the locker room in the third. Despite being outscored 17-15 in the third quarter, the Tigers still led by double-digits over the Gaels moving into the final frame, 57-35.
  • Finding their groove as a group, UOP remained hot from the floor in the fourth, keeping their lead at 20 on a layup from freshman Erica Adams with 4:50 left on the clock.
  • Cruising to victory, Pacific would go on to handily take down the Gaels by a final score of 73-54, marking their fifth straight win and securing their third season sweep of a WCC opponent this season (San Diego + Pepperdine).
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Leaving her mark, Higgins was named the Hardworking Player of the Game yet again after notching her 35thcareer double-double as a Tiger with 19 points, 14 rebounds, 6 steals and 5 assists. Overall, the 6'1" guard shot an impressive 7-of-8 overall from the field while also finishing a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line.
  • Adding to these efforts, McDavid (15), Randhawa (15) and Tillman (12) all tallied double figures in scoring as well in the win.
  • As a team, Pacific shot an effective 50.9 percent overall from the field while also dominating Saint Mary's in points in the paint (44-24), points off turnovers (19-14) and fast break points (23-9).

UP NEXT:
Pacific will await the final rankings from the WCC office of the updated Ken Pomeroy adjusted winning percentage standings to determine their seeding for the conference tournament next week. Final seedings are expected to be released on Sunday morning as tournament play is set to begin on Thursday, Mar. 4 from the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
