Pacific Can't Find Rhythm in Moraga

Box Score MORAGA, Calif. – The Pacific men's basketball team (8-8, 5-7 WCC) held Saint Mary's (13-7, 4-5 WCC) to a shooting percentage of just 38.9 from the floor on Thursday night, but also shot just 32.8 percent overall as a team in a 58-46 loss to the Gaels at University Credit Union Pavilion.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • The Tigers fell behind 11-4 with 10:58 to play in the first half before closing the gap and eventually taking their first and only lead of the night on a pair of made free throws by senior Broc Finstuen with 3:22 remaining, giving the Tigers a 19-18 advantage. The lead was short-lived, though, as 11 seconds later Logan Johnson hit a three-pointer for the Gaels that gave them a lead they wouldn't relinquish.
  • Pacific trailed 25-19 at the half and opened the second half on a 4-0 run to cut their deficit to two. Saint Mary's, though, would respond with a 7-0 run over the next minute, keeping the score in favor of the Gaels, 32-23. Saint Mary's got the lead to double digits on a three-pointer from Kyle Bowen at the 16:32 mark that made it 35-25 and made it a 13-point advantage on a three by Johnson with 14:57 remaining.
  • The Saint Mary's lead would stay in double digits until sophomore Daniss Jenkins made a layup with 4:48 to go that cut the deficit to nine points at 48-39. Less than one minute later, Matthias Tass hit a jumper in the paint that stretched the Gaels' lead back to 11 at 50-39. The Gaels would see their lead stretch to 17 with 57 seconds remaining on another Tass jumper and would go on to win by a 12-point spread as the Tigers got free throws from Jenkins and a three-pointer from Finstuen in the final minute.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Jenkins was tabbed the Hardworking Player of the Game after leading Pacific with 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting while also recording a new career-high four steals.
  • Additionally, Finstuen added 11 on 4-for-13 from the floor while graduate student Jordan Bell pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds for the Tigers.
