Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. – After dominating Portland on the road their last time out, the Pacific men's basketball team (8-7, 5-6 WCC) overcame a 14-point first half deficit and went on to defeat San Diego (3-9, 2-6) by double digits, 77-67, on Tuesday afternoon at Jenny Craig Pavilion.
Finding their groove after the halftime break, the Tigers outscored the Toreros, 50-31 in the second half to notch their second win of their final road trip of the 2020-21 regular season.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- After opening the game on a 6-0 run, Pacific saw San Diego go on a 20-0 run in which the Tigers went scoreless for nearly nine minutes as they fell behind 20-6. Pacific, though, would get back on track and use a 7-2 run to climb back into the contest. The Tigers would get the deficit as low as seven points in the first half at the 3:36 mark on a made layup by sophomore Daniss Jenkins that cut the Toreros lead to 30-23.
- Inside the final minute of the half, sophomore Pierre Crockrell II would hit a jumper that drew the Tigers to within nine, producing a halftime score of 36-27 in favor of San Diego. The Toreros shot just under 52 percent in the first half, including 4-for-9 from beyond the arc, while the Tigers went just 1-for-9 from distance.
- The second half proved to be a different story as Pacific opened the second half on a 5-0 run via made baskets from seniors Jeremiah Bailey and Broc Finstuen, setting the tone for the remainder of the contest. Pacific would end up taking the lead for good at the 15:05 mark when Bailey stole the ball from Jared Rodriguez, taking it coast-to-coast for a two-handed jam that put the Tigers in front 41-40, marking a 14-4 Pacific run to open the half.
- San Diego would get to within one point on a jumper by Frankie Hughes with 12:58 to go that cut the Pacific lead to 45-44, but the Tigers pushed back just 30 seconds later on a layup by Finstuen. With just over 12 minutes remaining, Crockrell made a jumper that stretched the Tigers lead to five, and 12 seconds later, the Tigers turned another Rodriguez turnover into a pair of made free throws by Bailey that gave Pacific its largest lead of the day at 51-44.
- The Toreros would cut into the Pacific lead and make one final push with just under four minutes to go. Down by six with 3:59 remaining, Finn Sullivan hit a three-pointer that drew San Diego to within three at 63-60. Pacific would not wilt, however. With 3:28 remaining, Finstuen made a pair of free throws to extend the lead to five, and with 2:02 remaining, graduate student Jordan Bell nailed a step-back jumper on the wing that give the Tigers a 67-60 cushion.
- Pacific would see their second half lead balloon to 11 on a pair of Bell free throws with 1:02 remaining before going on to win by a final of 77-67.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Crockrell was named the Hardworking Player of the Game after pouring in a career-high 21 points. Additionally, Tacoma, Wash. product added five assists, three rebounds and two steals on 9-of-12 from the floor.
- Finstuen finished the game with 15 points and five rebounds while Bell added 13 points and eight boards. Bailey supplied 12 points and seven rebounds as well in the win for Pacific.
- The Tigers shot a blistering 55.2 percent (16-for-29) in the second half while holding the Toreros to just 33.3 percent (11-for-33), including 2-for-9 from beyond the arc. After being minus-six in rebounding at halftime, Pacific finished even with San Diego on the glass with each team pulling down 34 rebounds.

The Tigers wrap up their three-game trip on Thursday as they play their final true road game of the 2020-21 season at Saint Mary's in Moraga. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. PT as the contest will be televised nationally on ESPN2.
