Pacific Begins Final Week of Regular Season at USD

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Fresh off of a commanding win on the road at Portland on Saturday, the Pacific men's basketball team (7-7, 4-6 WCC) will continue their three-game road swing and head to Southern California for their only meeting of the season with the San Diego Toreros (3-8, 2-5 WCC) on Tuesday.

THINGS TO KNOW:
  • In their 22-point win at Portland, sophomore Pierre Crockrell II led the way with 16 points on 7-for-13 shooting while dishing out seven assists while Portland native Jalen Brown netted a career-high 14 points on 4-for-9, including a 4-for-7 effort from beyond the arc.
  • Senior Jeremiah Bailey also scored 14 points while sophomore Daniss Jenkins and senior Broc Finstuen each added 13 as Pacific led wire-to-wire by building a 24-5 lead to open the game. In the second half, Portland got to within 16, but the Tigers responded to increase their advantage by as many as 26 with 3:31 to play before closing out the game with a 22-point margin. 
  • Overall, Pacific shot 54 percent (32-for-59) for the game and 40 percent (8-for-20) from three-point range while holding Portland to just 35.3 percent (18-for-51) for the contest.
  • In their recent history, Pacific has had the upper hand in games versus San Diego as the Tigers have won the last two meetings and seven of the last eight. Pacific's only loss to San Diego in the Damon Stoudamire era came at Jenny Craig Pavilion on Jan. 5, 2019 by a final of 73-64. Pacific swept last season's series and won in San Diego by a final of 71-64 on Feb. 29.
 
SCOUTING THE TOREROS:
  • San Diego, meanwhile, has played just 11 total games on the season and recently came off of another extended COVID pause. In their first game back on Thursday, the Toreros earned a 71-60 road victory over Santa Clara in which Joey Calcaterra led the way with a career-high 23 points on 9-for-16 shooting. Vladimir Pinchuk posted a double-double with 13 points and 10 boards while Ben Pyle added 15 points on 6-for-12 from the floor, including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. 
  • In their most recent contest, the Toreros fell at No. 1 Gonzaga on Saturday by a 106-69 final. Josh Parrish led the way for San Diego with 13 points going 6-for-9 from the field. Calcaterra, Marion Humphrey and Jared Rodriguez all scored 10 points in the loss, a game in which Gonzaga shot 55.6 percent from the floor.
  • Calcaterra, the redshirt junior guard for the Toreros, leads the way for the Toreros, averaging 13.7 points per game. Josh Parrish also averages in double figures at 10.9 points per contest.
