Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. - On the heels of back-to-back losses in which they allowed 80 points in both games, it was the Pacific men's basketball team (7-7, 4-6) who flipped the script and scored 80 points on Saturday in a resounding victory over the Portland Pilots (6-14, 0-11) at the Chiles Center.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Pacific set the tone early, opening the game on a 12-0 run with five of those 12 points scored by sophomore Pierre Crockrell II. Catching fire early, the offensive rhythm set the table for a half in which the Tigers led 24-5 after a made three-pointer by senior Jeremiah Bailey with 11:56 to play. The Tigers would go on to a 47-30 halftime lead while shooting 58 percent from the floor in the period, including 6-for-13 from beyond the arc. By contrast, Portland went just 9-for-29 from the field, but six of the Pilots' nine made field goals were from distance.
- Freshman Jalen Brown, who attended Jefferson High School in Portland, scored all 14 of his points in the first half for the Tigers and got hot from three-point range, going 4-for-7 from deep in helping Pacific create separation.
- The Tigers would stretch the lead to 25 points out of the gate in the second half as they came out of the locker room on an 8-0 run, capped off by a Crockrell layup with 16:22 remaining.
- Portland would whittle the Pacific lead down to 16 after Zac Triplett made three free throws after getting fouled on a three-point attempt with 10:58 to go. The Tigers, though, would not let the Pilots get any closer as Pacific would see the lead balloon back up to as many as 26 on a Broc Finstuen layup with 3:31 to go that stretch the Tigers lead to 80-54.
- Cruising to victory, Pacific was able to handle the Pilots and secure their ninth consecutive win over Portland, 80-58, which also marks the fourth consecutive season in which UOP has swept the season series.
