MALIBU, Calif. - The University of the Pacific Women's Volleyball team lost to Pepperdine, a team receiving votes in the latest AVCA Coaches Poll, on Wednesday evening, 3-2 (20-25, 25-21, 21-25, 25-17, 15-12) in a West Coast Conference contest, as the Tigers drop to 1-5 on the season. MATCH SUMMARY
The first set was close as it reached 15-15. Then, four straight kills for the Tigers, two by
Alexa Edwards, and one each from
Ramonni Cook and
Riley Patterson, gave Pacific a 19-15 lead that would not be relinquished in the set. The Tigers went on to take the opening set, 25-20. Patterson had six kills in the opening set.
Pepperdine responded in the second set with a 25-21 win to even the match. At 17-17, the Waves scored three straight, and didn't look back in the set. Edwards had four kills in set two.
Although the Tigers fell behind early in the third set, trailing by as much as 8-2, Pacific answered with an 8-1 run to take its first lead of the set. Later in the set, Pacific trailed 19-16, only to respond with a run of 9-2 to finish the set, 25-21. During the late run, Edwards had three kills and Patterson had the final kill of the set, as Pacific led 2-1 in sets.
The Waves jumped out to an early lead in set four, and controlled the set. Separation in points was primarily from a four-point and a five-point run by Pepperdine, as the Waves evened the match at 2-2, forcing a deciding set by winning the fourth, 25-17.
Pacific led 10-8 in set five, after a kill by
Sedona Sherman, but Pepperdine followed with six unanswered points to reach match point. The Tigers kept the match going after a service error by the Waves and a kill from Edwards, but the match was decided on a kill from Meg Brown, as Pepperdine took the deciding set, 15-12 for a 3-2 win on Wednesday.
NOTABLE STATS
- Tubbs had a total of 25 digs, as she surpassed 1,000 for her career at Pacific. She has reached 25 digs three times this season.
- Edwards' 22 kills matches a season-high, as she finished the evening with a .222 attack percentage in the match. With her 12 digs in addition to her kill total, Edwards reached a double double for the fourth time this season.
- With 14 kills and 12 digs, Patterson also had a double double.
- Gabby Leo had 49 assists and 14 digs on Wednesday
- Cook had three total blocks.
- Rachel Ahrens led Pepperdine in kills with 19.

The Tigers host a WCC match on Tuesday, February 23 against Santa Clara. It will be the first of a home-and-home pair of matches with the Broncos. Opening serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. from Alex G. Spanos Center. In the last meeting between Pacific and Santa Clara, the Broncos won in three sets on November 26, 2019.
