Tigers Lead Wire-to-Wire in Win over Pilots

Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. - After tough back-to-back losses to No. 1/1 Gonzaga and on the road BYU, the Pacific men's basketball team (6-5, 3-4) earned a lopsided win over the Portland Pilots (6-13, 0-10) on Thursday afternoon at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

With four Tigers finishing in double figures, Pacific rolled to an 84-57 victory to snap a four-game losing skid and jump back over the .500 mark overall.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Pacific would open an early lead and never look back as the Tigers led 12-8 at the first media timeout before going on a 12-3 run, which was capped off by a made three-pointer from graduate student Jordan Bell to make it a 24-11 contest.
  • The Tigers would go on to a 45-28 halftime lead as both Bell (12) and senior Jeremiah Bailey (14) scored in double figures in the first half while the team shot 54.8 percent (17-for-31) in the period, including 7-for-13 from beyond the arc.
  • The Tigers kept their foot on the gas in the second half as they opened the period with a 9-0 run to set the tone, making it a 53-28 score.
  • At the 13:21 mark, Bell would convert on a layup to balloon the Pacific lead to 60-35 in favor of UOP. Less than a minute later, sophomore Daniss Jenkins took a defensive rebound coast to coast for a layup to make it a 62-35 advantage.
  • Pacific would go on to lead by as many as 32 with 2:26 to go in the contest.
  • Ultimately, the Tigers held Portland to just 18 made field goals in the game and 36.7 percent from the field while Pacific shot an impressive 51.6 percent (32-for-62) for the game. Getting back in the win column in style, UOP would cruise to a dominant 84-57 victory over the Pilots.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Bailey was named the Hardworking Player of the game after finishing with 21 points (second highest total of the season), 6 rebounds and 3 steals. From behind-the-arc, the Fairbanks, Alaska native tied his career-high by knocking down 4 of his 7 attempts.
  • Bell went on to have an outstanding shooting performance on the day for Pacific, going 8-for-12 from the floor and 2-for-4 from beyond the arc as he fell one rebound shy of his fourth double-double of the season.
  • Joining the party, senior Broc Finstuen flirted with a double-double himself after tallying 11 points and 8 rebounds while senior Justin Moore added 10 points on 4-of-6 shooting for the Tigers. Additionally, sophomore Pierre Crockrell II collected a season-high eight assists, two shy of his career-best.
  • As a team, Pacific outrebounded the Pilots 38-24 on the afternoon and dominated the points in the paint, outscoring Portland 40-16.
