Tigers Drop First Road Match of Season at USF

Box Score
SAN FRANCISCO – The University of the Pacific Women's Volleyball team lost a West Coast Conference match on Wednesday night to San Francisco, 3-1 (24-26, 25-22, 25-17, 25-20). It was the first road match of the spring 2021 season for the Tigers, as Pacific has started the season, 1-3.

MATCH SUMMARY

The opening set was tightly contested, with neither team leading by more than three points until the Tigers led 19-15 off a kill from Sedona Sherman. Another point was added for a 20-15 Pacific lead on a kill from Riley Patterson

However, USF went on a 7-1 run to regain a lead in the set, 22-21. Both teams battled until the Dons reached set point. Pacific was up against set point, trailing 24-23, but responded with three straight points, including kills from Kennedy Kaminsky and Alexa Edwards, and the set being capped off by a kill from Ramonni Cook, who led the Tigers in kills in the opening set with five.

Even at 12-12 in the second set, the Dons scored the next two points. Although the Dons didn't pull far away from Pacific in the set, they didn't look back, eventually taking the set, 25-22 capped off on a kill by McKenna Marshall. Edwards had five kills in the second set, along with two service aces.

USF cruised to a lead as large as 11 points in set three. Although a pair of unforced USF errors and kills by Edwards and Sherman brought the Tigers back within eight points late, the Dons eventually closed out the set, 25-17 for a 2-1 lead in sets. Sherman had five kills in the third set.

Gabby Leo opened up the fourth set with a service ace, then Kaminsky and Patterson combined for a block to give the Tigers a quick 2-0 lead. The lead for Pacific would not last long, as USF took its first lead of the set at 4-3 on a block from Orsula Staka and Greta Corti. The set would be even at 5-5, but the Dons went ahead again at 6-5 and didn't look back, as USF completed a 3-1 match win by taking set three, 25-20.
