STOCKTON, Calif. – The Tigers came back home for the only time in December to host Nevada. The two teams could not decide a winner in regulation, and after the Tigers first overtime game of the year, Nevada left the Alex G. Spanos Center with the 80-77 win.
The Tigers started out hot, getting out to an early 8-2 lead over Nevada. The Wolf Pack responded well, outscoring the Tigers 23-9 to finish the first quarter.
The Tigers responded quickly in the second quarter, cutting the Nevada lead down to two points by the end of the quarter.
Sam Ashby and
Rosie Schweizer led the team in the second quarter, Ashby had eight points on 3-4 shooting from the field with two three-pointers. Schweizer had four points on 2-2 shooting. The Tigers bench scored 13 of the 19 points in the quarter for Pacific as the two teams went into the locker room separated by just two points.
Nevada extended the lead in the third, with an eight-point lead halfway through the quarter, the Tigers responded well, going on a 6-0 run to bring the game within one before Nevada went on their own 6-0 run to go up by seven headed into the final frame. Liz Elliott led the team with six points in the quarter, going 3-5 from the field.
In the fourth the Tigers started the quarter with an 8-0 scoring run to go up by one just two minutes into the quarter. The two teams stayed close throughout the rest of the quarter, with the Tigers taking a two-point lead with under 30 seconds remaining before the Wolf Pack tied the game with 20 seconds remaining. The Tigers had a chance to win the game in regulation, but the layup from Elliott couldn't land.
Liz Smith led the team in the fourth with eight points, two assists and a block.
The Tigers got out to an early four-point lead in overtime, but Nevada responded, closing the gap and taking a one-point lead with less than 30 seconds remaining. The Tigers had two chances at the end of the game to tie but could not get a shot to fall and the Wolf Pack survived with the 80-77 win.
"We keep giving ourselves opportunities and we have to take advantage of those opportunities," said Head Coach
Bradley Davis. "We are getting to the free throw line which is what we want, we have got to convert at a better clip then we are and taking advantage of those opportunities when we get them on the offensive end.
Elizabeth Elliott had a career game, scoring 19 points with two assists, both career highs for Elliott.
Sam Ashby had 17 points, good for her season high and led the team with three made threes.
Liz Smith had a career high 14 points and
Anaya James was one rebound away from her second double-double this season as she had 11 points and nine rebounds.
The Tigers travel to Stanford on Sunday, December 12 to play #4 Stanford, tip-off will be at 12:00 PM.
