CORVALLIS, Ore. – The Tigers played their first ranked opponent of the season in #16 Oregon State. The game was exciting throughout, with the two teams staying close the entire game. A final minute score kept the Beavers ahead and secured the win, 76-72.
The Tigers and Beavers fought throughout the game; the first quarter remained close as Oregon State took an early lead but could not separate from the Tigers. "They did a great job with the intensity, the bench did a really good job, they kept each other up the whole time, kept each other going," said Head Coach
Bradley Davis. "Had a couple good performances but it was a really good overall team effort." The largest lead in the first being eight points before the Tigers scored eight straight points to end the quarter.
The second quarter was even tighter, as the Tigers tied the game at the start of the quarter before the Beavers took the lead once again but could not pull away by more than four points. The two teams were separated by one point heading into half as the Tigers finished on of their best first halves of the season.
Coming out of the half the Tigers continued to chip away at the Beavers slim lead, taking a lead for a brief moment just over halfway through the quarter. The two teams remained deadlocked however, the Tigers scored six of the final nine points in the quarter to finish battling back from eight points down at the 7:30 mark.
The fourth quarter started out as the best quarter of the game for the Tigers as they built up a four-point lead which was their biggest lead of the game up to that point. The Tigers continued to hold their lead against the Beavers, with Pacific having a five-point lead with just over three minutes remaining. Oregon State showed why they were ranked #16 in the nation however, battling back to tie the game and subsequently take the lead with 18 second remaining. The Tigers got a shot off to tie the game with a few seconds remaining but were not able to get it to fall. "Really proud of our effort today, I think this team has done a good job of learning lessons along the way and making sure we continue to get better, and we did that today." Head Coach
Bradley Davis said about the close loss.
Anaya James once again led the Tigers in scoring, with 31 points thanks to going 5-7 from three-point range.
Erica Adams had 13 points and played a team high 35 minutes.
Liz Smith and
Elizabeth Elliott both reached double-digit points. Elliott led the team with eight rebounds and Smith led the team with five assists.
The Tigers are back home for their only home game of December this Saturday, December 4. Tip-off will be at 2 PM at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
