Pacific Volleyball Season to Continue With Invite to NIVC Championship

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - STOCKTON, Calif. - The Pacific volleyball team saw its season extended with the announcement that the Tigers have been selected to participate in the National Invitational Volleyball Championship (NIVC).

The Tigers along with 30 other teams will be participating in the fourth annual NIVC. The 2021 NIVC features Round 1 and 2 action from Dec. 2-5, with Round 3 scheduled for Dec. 6-8. The semifinals will be held Dec. 8-10, and the championship match be played Dec. 13 or 14.

There were nine automatic qualifiers including Pacific and 22 at-large qualifiers.

"I am very proud of this team and how hard they work every day. They have earned this opportunity and we continue our journey together," said Pacific head coach Greg Gibbons

Pacific will travel to the pod hosted by Weber State in Ogden, Utah on Dec. 3. The Tigers will face the Vikings of Portland State at 5 p.m. The other pod will see host Weber State face CSU Bakersfield at 8 p.m. The winners of the match will face one another on Dec. 4 at 4 p.m.

"With the explosive growth of volleyball, and how the maturing club scene has allowed dozens of D-I programs to raise the bar of excellence in recruiting, it only makes sense to add to the postseason options in the college game," said NIVC director Jared Rudiger. "Teams will chase an NIVC title as a reward for experienced rosters, or to provide a true learning experience for young players when it comes to the demands of the postseason."

This marks Pacific second appearance in the NIVC as the Tigers participated in the inaugural tournament in 2017. The Tigers reached the second round, losing to UC Irvine in five.
