Tigers Fall to Santa Clara

STOCKTON, CA – The Tigers were back home for the first time in over a month as they brought a seven-game win streak into the game against the reigning national champions Santa Clara Broncos. University of the Pacific could not continue the win streak however as Santa Clara won 3-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED -

Pacific got out to an early lead as Ryanne Molenaar scored in the third minute off a cross from Abigail Wolf

Santa Clara responded quickly as the champs tied up the game in the 17th minute with a quick goal. The Broncos continued to control possession through most of the first half before scoring again at the end of the half off a penalty kick in the 40th minute. With eight shots in the first half the Broncos controlled the tempo once they recovered from the opening Tigers goal.

The second half continued much in the same way as the end of the first. Santa Clara got an insurance goal in the 56th minute as Karen Goor sent a rainbow shot into the top of the net over the hand of the WCC Defensive Player of the Week Brenna Crump.

Pacific had two corners in the second half but could not find the back of the net.

TIGER LEADERS – Molenaar scored her third goal of the season, Wolf recorded her first assist of the season. In goal Crump recorded six saves for the Tigers.

COACHED CORNER – "Came out ready to play, didn't back down when they came out to play. We scored first and being able to play good soccer for 90 minutes even though the team was down 3-1, we are still playing out of the back, and we did the right things, there are sequences where we can grow and get better" Co Head Coach Danesha Adams

"We needed this game; it came at a great time. After a good non-conference season and starting conference with a big win at LMU. It was great to be home in front of a supportive crowd. The players wanted more but we had a lot of really good moments, it might have just been one more pass in the final third, but Santa Clara is a really good program, and we firmly believe that we were going to win, and this team can win." Co Head Coach J.J Wozniak

UP NEXT: The Tigers are back on the pitch on Saturday, as they travel to take on Saint Mary's. That game will have a 1 p.m. kickoff.
