No. 5 Long Beach State Edges No. 6 Pacific, 13-11 in Overtime

Box Score
STOCKTON, Calif. - The energy and enthusiasm of top-flight water polo filled the Chris Kjeldsen Pool as No. 6 Pacific hosted No. 5 Long Beach State on Thursday night. The scoreboard at the end of the ngiht reflected a 13-11 overtime win in favor of the visiting 49ers on Senior Night. What the scoreboard did not say all the excitement and efforts that surrounded the contest.

"It was a tough way to go out," said Pacific head coach James Graham. "Nothing really from this game went the way that we wanted to go. We lost a key part of our team early in the second period. Losing that part was huge but that is where our guys really stepped up. These guys showed an enormous amount of courage and heart; ultimately, that is what makes up champions. This does not shake my confidence at all."

A goal with four seconds left in regulation by the Tigers' Bogdan Djerkovic sent the match to overtime. The contest was also tied after the first quarter, the second quarter and again after the Djerkovic goal in the fourth quarter. Neither team felt as if they had a safe lead in the contest.

Djerkovic finished the contest with five goals in the loss for Pacific, who drops to 9-9 overall and 3-1 in the GCC. Reuel D'Souza scored two goals and assisted on six more. Pacific had a 38-32 advantage in shots in the loss.
