Pacific to Host Three Water Polo Matches in Three Days

STOCKTON, Calif. – The No. 7 University of the Pacific men's water polo team will host three matches in three days as they host No. 6 UCSB on Saturday, No. 1 UCLA on Sunday and No. 12 Princeton on Monday. All the action will be at the Chris Kjeldsen Pool.

• Last Meeting: The last meeting between the Gauchos and the Spartans saw UCSB come away with a 14-6 win as part of the Cal Invite on Sept. 26 in the fifth-place matchup.  
• Series History: UCSB holds a slight 19-16 advantage and are in the midst of a two-game winning streak. The last win for Pacific came on Oct. 20, 2019. The last win at home was on Oct. 20, 2018.

• Last Meeting: The last meeting between the Tigers and the Bruins saw UCLA edge Pacific by an 11-9 margin earlier this season on Sept. 25. In that game, the Tigers' Bogdan Djerkovic finished the game with three goals, Djorde Stanic had two goals and two assists, Mihailo Vukazic had a goal and three assists and goalkeeper John Hedges had eight saves.
• Series History: The Bruins have controlled the series, winning 29 of the last 30 meetings. The last Pacific win came on Dec. 1, 2013 as the Tigers won 10-9 in a matchup of No. 1 vs. No. 2 in the MPSF Tournament.

• Last Meeting: The last meeting between the two teams saw Pacific post a 15-9 win in Princeton, N.J. as the two schools share nicknames and colors. 
• Series History: Pacific has won the last five meetings between the two schools.
Poll Talk: Sunday's opponent, the Bruins moved up to the top spot in the latest rankings and Monday's opponent, Princeton moved up from No. 13 to No. 12 and find themselves the highest ranked team on the east coast. 

Scoring MachineJeremie Cote leads Pacific with 32 goals on 77 shots. He is one of five Tigers with at least 15 goals on the season including Bogdan Djerkovic (22), Djorde Stanic (18), Matthew Hosmer (15) and Mihailo Vukacic (15). The 30 goals by Cote is tied for the eighth most in the GCC.

Sharing the WealthDjorde Stanic leads the Pacific team with 17 assists - which ranks tenth in the GCC.

Last Line of Defense: Goalkeeper John Hedges has made 146 saves on the season with a season-high 21 against UCSB on Sept. 26, 2021. The 146 saves are the seventh most in the nation. He ranks second nationally with 11.7 saves per game. 

Pre-Season Polls: The Pacific men's water polo team was selected seventh in the National Top-20 poll released by the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA). In addition, the Tigers were picked second in the preseason Golden Coast Conference (GCC) preseason poll. UC Santa Barbara (25 points, 4 first place votes) earned the top spot in the GCC preseason poll, followed by Pacific (21, 1 first place vote) second with Long Beach State (14) and Pepperdine (13) rounding out the top four.
