Sharp Shooting Guides Tigers Past Dons

Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – Returning to the Spanos Center for the first time since Dec. 15, the Pacific women's basketball team cruised past San Francisco, 83-63, on Thursday night in Stockton.

Fresh off of a four-game road trip that included one postponed contest (at Portland, Jan. 2), the Tigers took the early lead on a three by sophomore Sam Ashby just thirteen seconds in and never looked back, notching their first home victory of the season in the process.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Aiming to get back in the win column after falling to No. 21 Gonzaga on Monday, Pacific remained hot after Ashby's triple to open the scoring, doubling their lead to 14-7 over the Dons on junior Kaylin Randhawa's first from behind-the-arc at the 2:32 mark in the first quarter.
  • After redshirt freshman Rosie Schweizer would convert an and-one and senior Brooklyn McDavid would cash in on a layup to close the opening period, the Tigers held a double-digit advantage over the Dons at the end of the first, 19-7.
  • Heating up, Pacific pushed their lead to eighteen after back-to-back baskets from Ashby and Schweizer midway through the second quarter at 4:38.
  • Although USF would use a quick run to cut into their deficit to end the first half, the Tigers maintained a ten-point advantage heading into the locker room, leading the Dons 33-23.
  • Applying the pressure, Pacific would net the first four points out of the break on baskets from senior Valerie Higgins and McDavid.
  • Joining the scoring party, freshman Erica Adams knocked down the first shot of her collegiate career at 1:58 in the third, a corner three to extend the Tiger lead to nineteen, 59-40.
  • At the end of the three, UOP had kept their foot on the pedal, taking a 61-45 advantage over USF into the final frame.
  • Pouring it on, Higgins and McDavid continued to find the bottom of the net for Pacific down the stretch, extending the Tiger lead to nineteen, 75-56, with 4:21 remaining in regulation.
  • Leaving no doubt, Pacific displayed that they were happy to be back home through the rest of the quarter, closing out the Dons and comfortably defeating San Francisco by a final score of 83-63.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Picking apart the defense all night, Higgins was named the Hardworking Player of the Game after tallying her second double-double of the season (27th career) with 21 points and 12 rebounds. Extending her streak of scoring in double figures, the Granada Hills native also registered 5 assists and 4 steals for the Tigers in the win.
  • Spreading the wealth, senior Lianna Tillman (16), McDavid (16) and Ashby (13) also all finished in double figures, as UOP shot an impressive 54.1 percent from the field and 84.6 percent overall from the free throw line against USF.
  • Dominating down low, Pacific scored 42 of their 83 points in the paint.
