Tigers Stumble in Second Quarter, Fall to No. 18/17 Gonzaga

Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – Matching up with the Bulldogs for the second time this season, the Pacific women's basketball team (5-6. 3-5) fell to No. 18/17 Gonzaga, 77-65, on Thursday night at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

Despite both teams trading baskets through the first thirteen minutes of the contest, Gonzaga would use a 21-0 run midway through the second quarter to secure the lead for good as the Bulldogs cruised to their thirteenth consecutive victory, the fourth longest win streak in the nation.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Battling out of the gates, the Tigers took their first lead of the night on a jumper by senior Brooklyn McDavid at 2:38 in the first quarter, giving Pacific the 8-7 advantage.
  • Trading baskets through the opening minutes, Gonzaga led by just one point at the end of the first, 13-12.
  • After a few baskets from freshman Erica Adams and junior Kaylin Randhawa to begin the second, Pacific would only tally one total point in the final 7:13 of the quarter as the Bulldogs enjoyed a 23-1 run to close out the first half. Overall, the Zags would outscore UOP 32-9 in the second. Heading into the locker room, Gonzaga remained on top of the Tigers, 45-21.
  • Aiming to keep pace, freshman Liz Smith buried a triple at the end of the third period as the Tigers trailed 62-38.
  • Flipping the switch, Pacific would go on to outscore Gonzaga 27-15 in the fourth quarter, including 9 points from Randhawa. Unfortunately, the sharpshooting of the Tigers in the final period would prove to be too late as the Bulldogs hung on to defeat Pacific 77-65, remaining undefeated in conference play to stay atop the WCC standings.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • Leading all scorers, Randhawa was named the Hardworking Player of the Game after finishing with a season-high 16 points on 7-of-12 from the floor. Making her mark, the Turlock native also grabbed 2 rebounds and tallied 2 assists for the Tigers.
  • Beginning to heat up, Adams notched 11 points for Pacific and has now scored in double figures in her last three contests. Overall, the 5'10" guard continues to impress with her shooting, knocking down 4-of-8 from the field against Gonzaga.
  • Demonstrating her versatility yet again, redshirt senior Valerie Higgins finished just one rebound shy of her 28thcareer double-double after registering 9 points and 10 boards. Additionally, senior Lianna Tillman also added 9 points for the Tigers, all coming from behind-the-arc.
