Box Score PROVO, Utah. - In a game originally scheduled for Jan. 16, the Pacific women's basketball team (5-5, 3-4) fell to BYU (9-2, 5-1), 81-60, in a makeup contest on Tuesday afternoon at the Marriott Center.
Despite holding an early lead, the Tigers could not find much momentum offensively following the opening minutes of the game as BYU recorded their thirteenth consecutive home victory.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- Getting on the board out of the gates, senior Lianna Tillman knocked down a three-pointer just 37 seconds into the contest to put Pacific on top at 9:23, 3-2.
- Despite back-to-back triples from freshmen Erica Adams and Liz Smith to close out the first half, the Tigers struggled to find the bottom of net overall throughout the first 20 minutes. At the break, Pacific trailed 47-21.
- Applying pressure out of the locker room, the Tigers would outscore BYU 20-14 in the third quarter, but the Cougars still maintained their double-digit lead through three quarters, 61-41.
- With both teams trading baskets throughout the fourth, Adams and Smith connected on two more threes down the stretch for the Tigers. Ultimately, BYU would prove to be too much for Pacific to handle, securing the win by a final score of 81-60.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Demonstrating her versatility, redshirt senior Valerie Higgins was named the Hardworking Player of the Game after finishing just two steals shy of a triple-double: 18 points, 10 rebounds 8 steals. Overall, the 6'1" guard also added 2 assists and 1 block while going 6-of-8 from the free throw line.
- Recording a career-high 34 minutes played, Adams notched double figures in scoring (10 points) for the second consecutive game. As a whole, the San Ramon native is now 6-of-7 overall from behind-the-arc this season after sinking 2-of-3 from deep against BYU.
- As a team, Pacific shot an impressive 13-of-15 (86.7 percent) from the stripe in the contest.
