Pacific Makes Quick Trip to Provo

STOCKTON, Calif. – Originally scheduled for Jan. 16, the Pacific women's basketball team (5-4, 3-3) will travel to Provo on Tuesday to take on BYU tomorrow, Tuesday, Jan. 26.
 
Following a split of LMU and Pepperdine at home last week, the Tigers will aim to secure their first road win since a 78-70 victory at Saint Mary's on Dec. 30.

THINGS TO KNOW:
  • After seeing their two contests postponed the week prior, Pacific split their two home games against LMU and Pepperdine last week, falling to LMU, 81-71 on Thursday, Jan. 21 before cruising past the Waves, 61-45, on Saturday, Jan. 23.
  • Heading into Tuesday, redshirt senior Valerie Higgins currently sits second in the WCC in scoring (17.0 ppg), fourth in rebounding (7.89 rpg), fourth in minutes played (33.71 mpg) and fifth in field goal percentage (.438). Defensively, the Granada Hills native also leads the conference in steals per game (3.67) and is tied for fifth in blocked shots per game (0.78). Higgins also sits fourth in Division I amongst active players in career steals (277) and fifth in steal average (2.83).
  • Leading by example, senior Brooklyn McDavid also sits atop the WCC in offensive rebounds with an average of 4.00 per game while fellow classmate Lianna Tillman leads the conference in minutes played with an average of 37.21 minutes per game. Individually, McDavid is averaging 12.7 ppg and 6.3 rpg while Tillman tallies an average of 9.9 ppg while also pacing the offense with average of 4.3 apg.
  • As a team, Pacific ranks third in the WCC in scoring offense (70.78 ppg), three-point field goal percentage (.351) and three-pointers per game (6.67). Converting when given the opportunity, the Tigers also lead the conference in free throw percentage with a .752 clip from the line.
SCOUTING THE COUGARS:
  • BYU, who has had four of their last five scheduled games postponed due to COVID-19 concerns, last played on Jan. 14 when they defeated Saint Mary's 80-63 at home.
  • The Cougars are currently in second place in the WCC with a 4-1 record, trailing only No. 18 Gonzaga, who is undefeated at 8-0 atop the conference.
  • Lauren Gustin currently ranks second in the nation in defensive rebounds per game (10.0) and third in total rebounds per game (13.5). Overall, her seven double-doubles also rank 18th in the nation in that same category.
  • Sitting above Higgins, Shaylee Gonzales also leads the WCC in scoring (20.2 ppg) and while also checking in at No. 27 in the country. Impressing offensively, she also ranks second in the conference in field goal percentage with a 51.6 percent clip.
  • Gustin (12.3 ppg) and Paisley Johnson Harding (12.0 ppg) are also averaging double figures in scoring.
  • As a team, BYU ranks 20th in the country in field-goal percentage (46.6 percent) and 31st in assists per game (16.7). The Cougars also lead the WCC in field-goal percentage (.466) and field-goal percentage defense (.358).
