Tigers Fight Until the End, Fall to LMU

Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. – Returning to the court after a twelve-day break, the Pacific women's basketball team (4-4, 2-3) could not battle back in the second half on Thursday evening, falling to Loyola Marymount (5-7, 4-3), 81-71, at the Alex G. Spanos Center.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
  • Opening the scoring on a layup from senior Brooklyn McDavid just eighteen seconds in, the Tigers remained on top of the Lions (11-9) on a basket from redshirt senior Valerie Higgins midway through the first quarter at 5:44.
  • Trading baskets throughout the rest of the period, Pacific held a one-point advantage over LMU at the end of one after a jumper from McDavid with :23 seconds put Pacific back in front, 21-20.
  • Continuing to match each other as the game transpired, the Tigers and Lions remained knotted as halftime approached until a three pointer by senior Lianna Tillman gave UOP the 29-26 lead at the 3:32 mark.
  • Following a quick run by LMU to end the first half, the Lions regain their advantage heading into the locker room, leading Pacific, 40-35.
  • Despite a three-point play from Higgins to begin the third quarter at 9:08, the Lions would find their rhythm offensively and extend their lead to 12 midway through the period, holding a 53-41 lead at 4:04.
  • Remaining within striking distance, Pacific trailed 58-48 at the end of three quarters of play.
  • Aiming for a comeback, sophomore Sam Ashby nailed back-to-back threes for the Tigers to keep UOP within seven, 65-58, with 7:06 remaining in regulation.
  • Catching fire down the stretch, LMU would push their lead back to double digits and would not let Pacific gain any momentum as the clock wound down. Following a three from junior Kaylin Randhawa with :34 seconds left, the Tigers would fall to the Lions by a final score of 81-71.

NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
  • McDavid was named the Hardworking Player of the Game after tallying her first double-double of the season with 19 points, 13 rebounds and 2 assists. Overall, it was the Studio City native's first double-double since a 19-point, 10-rebound performance in a win at Drexel on Nov. 16, 2019.
  • Pacing the offense yet again, Higgins led the team with 22 points and also added 7 rebounds, 2 steals and 1 block herself.
  • Heating up from deep, Ashby knocked down a career-high four shots from behind-the-arc against the Lions while totaling 13 points overall.
  • As a team, Pacific held the advantage over LMU in points in the paint (32-28) and second chance points (16-8).
