Box Score STOCKTON, Calif. - If there were any questions about how the Pacific men's basketball team would respond after nearly a month-long pause due to COVID-19 concerns, they were answered in the first three minutes of their game Thursday versus the Santa Clara Broncos. Pacific jumped out to a 14-0 lead before the first three minutes of the contest had elapsed en route to a resounding 79-58 win to open West Coast Conference play at the Alex G. Spanos Center.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT:
- The Tigers' fast start was sparked by a three-pointer made by senior Jeremiah Bailey on their first possession of the game. Bailey would go on to have six of Pacific's first 14 points in that three-minute. Pacific would go on to outscore Santa Clara 42-25 in the first half behind 10 points from Bailey and nine points from graduate student Jordan Bell, who delivered his first double-double as a Tiger with 17 points and 11 rebounds for the contest.
- Defensively, Pacific held Santa Clara to just 33.3 percent shooting (9-for-27) in the first half, while the Tigers shot a blistering 51.5 percent (17-for-33), including 5-for-8 from three-point range.
- Pacific continued its dominance in the second half, getting a Bell three-pointer out of the gate to kick off a period in which the Tigers outscored the Broncos 37-33. Ultimately, Bell would go 3-for-4 from beyond the arc in the contest and 7-for-11 from the floor overall. Many other Tigers got involved in the second half including sophomore Pierre Crockrell II, who saw 10 of his 12 total points scored after halftime. Crockrell's layup with 14:38 remaining in the contest gave Pacific its largest lead of the contest at 56-34. Crockrell also had a game-high five assists without committing a turnover.
NOTABLE PERFORMANCES:
- Logging his first double-double in the Orange & Black with 17 points and 11 rebounds, Bell was named the Hardworking Player of the Game in the win, adding two blocks and two steals for the Tigers as well.
- In addition to Bell, Bailey and Crockrell, sophomore Daniss Jenkins also scored in double figures with 15 points on 7-for-14 shooting. Seniors Justin Moore and Broc Finstuen added eight and seven points, respectively.
- The Tigers, despite the lengthy pause and lack of practice time, turned the ball over just four times in the game and allowed the Broncos just two total points off turnovers. The Tigers also won the rebounding battle, 38-30, and dominated with 48 points in the paint as compared to 22 for the Broncos.
